The Prince Ebeano Supermarket is a renowned and trusted name among modern day retailers in Nigeria. The indigenous supermarket brand is well –known for their bold footprints in the Nigerian retail industry, but not much is known about the giant CSR strides which the Prince Ebeano Supermarket is making in Nigeria. Without mincing words, the CSR projects undertaken by this indigenous supermarket brand can compete with those of the blue chip companies in both Naira’s worth and social impact. The story of how the Prince Ebeano Supermarket is touching lives in more positive ways cuts across different divides of the federation. Some of such projects are hereby presented.

  1. DONATION OF BED MOTHER – CHILD UNIT AT IBEJU-LEKKI GENERAL HOSPITAL, AKODO, LAGOS STATE

The Mother – Child Unit at Ibeju – Lekki General Hospital, Akodo, Lagos State is a 20 – Bed hospital facility built and equipped  by Prince Ebeano Supermarket as part of her Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The facility boasts of state-of-the-art gynaecology and paediatric care equipment; modern Maternity wards with separate Beds and Cradles for mother and child; fully equipped Obstetrics and Gynaecology operating theatre, restrooms, consulting rooms (ensuite) with patient waiting rooms and a 135KVA generator to support 24 hours medical care at the facility

Standard obstetrics, gynaecology and paediatric care are available at the facility with WHO standard medical equipment such as: Electro Surgical unit, Infant Warmer and Phototherapy unit, Oxygen Concentrator, Neo Natal Monitor, Suction Machine, Ultrasound Scanner and Multi Parameter Monitor equipment.

Hitherto, the local communities (now served by this Mother – Child Unit) were shuttling between General hospital Epe and Island Maternity, both of which are over 40 minutes’ drive from Akodo. The facility is also easing the burden of space constraint at the Ibeju – Lekki General Hospital Akodo, especially in the area of maternal and child care.

The facility was commissioned on the 19th of October 2017 by the Lagos state commissioner for health, Dr. Jide Idris. The facility has since commenced operation in all its functional areas.

  1. CONSTRUCTION OF A FULLY EQUIPPED, SOLAR-POWERED COMPUTER LABORATORY FOR FREE ICT TRAINING AT AGWA EWURU SECONDARY SCHOOL AGBOR, DELTA STATE

The donation of the Solar-powered computer laboratory is in line with the target of SDGs goal 4 in ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. Since its commissioning in December 2014, the 36-seater computer laboratory has immensely improved the level of ICT knowledge in the rural community of Agwa Ewuru, in Agbor Delta State. To ensure quality and sustainability of the project, the Prince Ebeano Supermarket also caters for the personnel cost of the computer teacher to-date. The success of this project over the years has earned the recognition of the federal government with the selection of Agwa Ewuru Secondary School as the ICT School Knowledge Centre, for IKA South Federal Constituency.

Students and parents alike, continue to tell tales of great impact delivered through this project. This singular CSR intervention by Prince Ebeano Supermarket is pioneering inclusiveness in ICT knowledge wherein geographical location does not hinder access to knowledge. According to the PTA chairman of Agwa Ewuru Secondary School, Mr Ogwu Benjamin, this intervention by Prince Ebeano supermarket is a great enhancement to education in the community.

  1. REHABILITATION OF 200METRES ADEJOKUN STREET, ISHERI – OKE, LAGOS STATE WITH STREET LIGHTS AND DRAINS

The 200 metres Adejokun Street links Olowoira to the other neighbouring communities of Isheri and Magodo in Lagos state. Prior to this intervention, Adejokun Street had suffered great dilapidation, making it a nightmare for motorists and cyclists plying the route. To ensure security in the neighbourhood, the rehabilitation also featured a Street lighting project which ensures that the Adejokun Street is fully lit at night. This project is in line with the target of SDGs 11 in building sustainable cities and communities.  The road project was completed and commissioned in January 2017.

  1. CONSTRUCTION OF 250 METRES ABDULSALAMI ABUBAKAR ROAD, WITH DRAINS AND STREET LIGHTS, IN ABUJA

In furtherance of their commitment to building sustainable cities and remedying infrastructural deficit in host communities, Prince Ebeano Supermarket embarked on the rehabilitation of the Abdulsalami Abubakar road by Lokogoma junction, along Lokogoma/Sunnyvale road in Abuja. The 250 metres road provides access to the Gudu market from the Sunnyvale Estate and the Lokogoma neighbourhood. Strategically, the newly rehabilitated road has improved the visibility of the Gudu market and has also enhanced carriage inwards and outwards from the market.

 

  1. CONSTRUCTION AND FURNISHING OF LABORATORY/LIBRARY COMPLEX AND OTHER SCHOOL INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS AT AGWA EWURU SECONDARY SCHOOL, AGBOR, DELTA STATE.

The project is a multi-disciplinary laboratory complex built in Agwa Ewuru Secondary school, Agbor, Delta state by Prince Ebeano supermarket as part of her CSR. The multi-disciplinary laboratory complex houses separate laboratories for Physics, Chemistry, Agricultural science, Biology and Home Economics; the complex also houses a modern Library.

The project commissioned in December 2014 has greatly improved the teaching and learning of the core science subjects – physics, Chemistry, Biology, among others, in the school. The Library facility housed within the complex has helped in promoting reading culture among the students. Yet another success story from this CSR project is the modern Home Economics laboratory which in the last three years is helping to promote vocational skills among the young girls who passed through Agwa Ewuru Secondary School.

Other school infrastructure provided under our CSR intervention at Agwa Ewuru Secondary School include a solar-powered water borehole, a modern toilet facility and rehabilitation of a block of 6 classrooms which were commissioned in 2012.

The Iyase of Agbor, Chief A.U Emenim, describes the various projects in the school as investments towards youth empowerment. The school principal, Mrs Ulebor B. N noted that Prince Ebeano’s CSR intervention in the school has greatly impacted on the academic performance of the students, while also enhancing the teaching capacity of the teachers.

  1. DONATION OF 6 HAND WASHING UNITS AND OTHER INFRASTRUCTURE AT ARAROMI NURSERY AND PRIMARY SCHOOL, GBAGADA, LAGOS STATE

In line with the UN global campaign for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) under the SDGs 6, the Prince Ebeano Supermarket is committed to building a society that is conscious about sanitation and hygiene. To this end, the Prince Ebeano Supermarket provided six (6) modern wash hand basing sinks at the Araromi Nursery and Primary School, Gbagada, Lagos (placed at strategic locations)  to promote hygiene-consciousness among the pupils as part of her CSR. To ensure the sustainability of the project, the Prince Ebeano Supermarket also provided a borehole facility which constantly supplies water to the Wash hand basins. The Project was commissioned in June 2017.

  1. RENOVATION OF 4 CLASSROOM BLOCKS AND FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT AT ARAROMI NURSERY AND PRIMARY SCHOOL, GBAGADA, LAGOS STATE

With broken floors and illegible chalk boards, classrooms became less attractive and conducive for the pupils of Araromi Nursery and Primary School, Gbagada, Lagos State. Recreation for the pupils was totally non-existent in the raining season as the school play was usually flooded.

Through need identification and assessment under their CSR strategy, the plight of the pupils and their teachers was identified and eliminated as the leaking roof was fixed, broken floors were tiled, Black boards replaced with White-maker boards; broken wooden doors and windows were replaced with improved metal doors and windows, thereby making the classrooms more conducive, safe and secured for both pupils and their teachers. The project was commissioned in January 2016.

On the motivation behind these massive CSR projects, the directors of the Prince Ebeano Supermarket, Mr Sunday Egede and Mr. David Ojei have this to say, “For us, success is not about how much wealth we keep for our children, rather, success is about how many lives we are able to impact positively.
